Arusha’s ace golfer, Jay Nathwani, once again proved his golfing prowess by successfully defending the Reliance Insurance Arusha Open title for a third consecutive year at the Arusha Gymkhana Club, last weekend.
The Arusha Gymkhana’s 25-year-old golfer played brilliantly during the three-day tournament, carding a gross score of 223 over three rounds to retain the prestigious crown.
“I am extremely delighted to have retained my title for the third year running,” Nathwani told The Arusha News during the prize-giving ceremony.
His latest triumph completed an impressive title hat-trick and further strengthened his reputation as one of Arusha’s leading golfers.
Christopher Botha, also representing Arusha, finished three strokes behind Nathwani with a gross score of 226 while Dar es Salaam TPDF Lugalo’s Isiaka Dunia secured third place after returning 227.
The tournament attracted 80 golfers from Arusha, Moshi, Dar es Salaam and Kenya, reaffirming its status as one of the leading competitions on the Tanzania Golf Union’s calendar.
Richard Gomes emerged victorious in the Division A nett competition with a total score of 218, narrowly edging Jacques Botha, who finished one stroke behind on 219.
In Division B, Mark Walker claimed the title with a score of 145. Muzaffar Yusufali returned an identical score but settled for second place following a countback.
Bob Shuma topped Division C with 146, while Niraj Vaghela finished runner-up after posting 149.
Neema Olomi claimed the ladies’ title with a score of 149, finishing three strokes ahead of Adrie Brown, who returned 152.
Joshua Wanyeche won the junior category with 181, while Murad Jivan emerged victorious in the seniors’ competition after recording 152.
Felix Mrema took the first-day prize with an impressive score of 67 whereas Cyril Brown won the second-day competition after returning 72.
