Mr Edem Kwami Senanu (pictured) of Ghana has been elected Chairperson of the Arusha-based African Union (AU) Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) during elections held on June 16.
Mr Senanu, who begins his second term on the Board, will serve as Chair for the next two years, working alongside Ms Yvonne Mutepuka Chibiya of Zambia as Vice-Chairperson and Principe Ntibasume of Burundi as Rapporteur.
The new bureau was elected shortly after the induction of five AUABC Board Members, who were sworn-in during a ceremony overseen by the AU’s office of the legal counsel.
The newly inducted members include three first-time appointees – Benjamin Kiunsi Kapera (Tanzania), Absatou Ly Diallo (Senegal) and Graciano Franscisco Domingos (Angola).
These appointments were made by the AU Executive Council during its 46th Ordinary Session in February 2025. Each member will serve a six-year term, contributing their expertise to advance the AUABC’s mandate of preventing and combating corruption across the continent.
Outgoing Chairperson, Ms Seynabou Ndiaye Diakhate, urged the Board to be steadfast in their mission.
“Fighting corruption is a difficult undertaking,” she noted, “but I believe the Board has the capacity and commitment to deliver meaningful results for Africa.”
