The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO), in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, has launched a major nationwide training programme aimed at preparing tour guides for upcoming international events, including AFCON 2027, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, Miss World 2027 and the World Travel Awards Grand Final.
Speaking during the launch in Arusha, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Ashatu Kijaji, said the programme will see 2,000 tour guides trained in its first phase, as part of a broader target of 13,050 guides across the country.
She noted that the initiative is key in ensuring Tanzania delivers high-quality tourism services amid an anticipated surge in international arrivals linked to the upcoming global events.
Dr Kijaji stressed that World Travel Awards Grand Final could bring in over 1,000 high-profile guests, among others, creating significant economic opportunities.
“Through this programme, TATO is leading efforts to enhance service standards by equipping tour guides with advanced professional skills, safety awareness and customer service excellence”, said TATO Executive Director, Mr Elirehema Maturo.
