Tanzania is widely known for its wildlife safaris, mountains and coastal attractions but it also has the potential to attract visitors interested in religious and spiritual experiences.
This potential has been highlighted by the visit of a renowned Hindu spiritual preacher from India, Rameshbhai Oza, who is leading a seven-day religious programme at the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple, in Arusha. The programme closes tomorrow, August 9, 2026.
Spiritual tourism refers to travel for religious gatherings, visits to sacred places, retreats, personal reflection or spiritual renewal. Such visits can also support local hotels, restaurants, transport companies and other tourism-related businesses.
Mr Oza is respectfully known by his followers as Pujya Bhaishri, an honorific title expressing deep respect. He is leading a programme known as the Shrimad Bhagavat Katha–teachings about devotion, moral and civic responsibility and spiritual life.
Organised by the Mittal and Aggarwal families of Arusha, the gathering has attracted members of the Hindu community, guests and people from different religious backgrounds interested in spiritual teachings and reflection.
The event shows that Arusha can host not only international conferences, business meetings and safari visitors but also people travelling to attend religious and cultural programmes.
