Over 1,000 runners are expected to feature in the second edition of the Tanfoam Marathon scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday), April 19, 2026, at the General Tyre Grounds at Njiro in Arusha.
The event will feature four race categories — 42 kilometres, 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres and 5 kilometres — catering for both professional athletes and recreational runners.
The first winner in the men and women’s full marathon will pocket cash Tshs 6,000.000. The second winner will earn Tshs 2,000,000 and third winner Tshs 1,200,000.
The race will start and finish at the General Tyre Grounds with routes covering key areas within Njiro and the wider Themi Hills vicinity.
The longer distances are expected to pass through areas such as Themi Hill, Pepsi Cola area and nearby industrial zones before looping back to the finish point. Participants have been asked to report at the venue by 5.30 am.
Police have urged motorists to drive cautiously during the early hours of the marathon as some routes will be closed to allow for the smooth running of the event.
An official from the organising committee said all preparations have been completed. “We are looking forward to a successful event,” he said.
