Defending champions Meru Cricket Club (MCC) began their PowerPack Trophy 2026 campaign in a brilliant fashion after smashing arch-rivals Telugu by 96 runs in the opening match at the St. Constantine Grounds last weekend.

Batting first, MCC posted an imposing total of 227 for 4 in 20 overs, setting an early benchmark in the tournament.

Anish Jepron starred with a sensational innings of 157 off just 70 balls, smashing 13 fours and 14 sixes in a powerful display of attacking cricket. Jainam Jenu provided solid support with 33, helping to build a strong partnership.

In reply, Telugu struggled to keep pace with the required run rate and were bowled out for 131 in 17.5 overs.

With the ball, MCC maintained control throughout the innings. Jainam Jenu picked up three wickets, while Mahipal claimed two crucial scalps to restrict the opposition.

MCC’s impressive opening victory sends a strong message to the rest of the participants.
